..may choose the double degree option with the Master in Premium Design Management of POLI.design, the Consorzio of Politecnico di Milano, Italy.
This specializing program focuses on design management applied to the luxury sector, bridging concepts and methods from the two fields of design and of management to foster innovation and develop a new approach of marketing. Students in the double degree option follow the regular courses at IUM in Monaco and move then to Milan for an additional semester of courses at POLI.design completed by an internship. All courses are taught in English.
Candidates to the double degree option are selected on the basis of academic results and motivation; please note that additional tuition fees are attached to the double degree.
Upon successful completion of the double degree program students will obtain the degree of Master of Science in Luxury Management from IUM and the degree of Master of level 1 in Premium Design Management from Politecnico di Milano through POLI.design.
The warm-up module will introduce students to the design culture, offering a summary of the current settings and of the reference context, providing the basic tools to understand and study the history of Design and Fashion, and to support the interpretation of the most recent trends.
UNIT 1 - DESIGN PILLARS
This first units will analyse the main case studies of the best contemporary design for the luxury sector. The most recent theories underlying contemporary developments of the Design and Fashion System in Europe will also be analysed and illustrated with practical examples.
UNIT 2 - PRODUCT AND BRAND DESIGN
The second module will investigate not only the most important and iconic contemporary luxury products, but also the contribution provided by the designer during the design or redesign of a brand.
UNIT 3 - COMMUNICATION VALUES
Communication is undoubtedly today one of the main focus areas of design: the object of this unit will include corporate image, communication through the new digital media and creativity for online marketing, as well as the basic tools for consumer sociology. Students will develop a small independent project under the supervision of the faculty of Politecnico di Milano.
UNIT 4 - RETAIL AND BRAND EXPERIENCE
The last unit will be entirely dedicated to the potential offered by design in commercial and experiential sectors for the luxury field, with a particular attention to the new forms of luxury, expressed today through new products and services to new consumers. Besides a theoretical introduction to the themes of buying, visual merchandising and events, practical activities will also be proposed with visits and projects aimed at facilitating the understanding of the dynamics involved in the creative process.
